If you are into scrapbooking or card making, chances are you have already heard of the award winning Cricut Expression. It seems everybody is dying to get their hands on one, but what is it really worth the money?
In case you don't know what a Cricut is, here's a quick overview: the Cricut is a personal die cutting system by Provo Craft. You can find three different Cricut machines available for sale. The newest and most popular is the Cricut Expression, but other models available include the Original Cricut and the Cricut Create.
The Cricut Cutting Machines use precision cutting technology to cut out letters and shape designs for card making, home decor, scrapbooking and paper crafting from various materials. The Cricut Expression can cut not only regular card stock paper, but heavier card-stock, vinyl, some chipboards, soft plastics, window cling material, poster board, thin magnets and even fabric.
The Cricut Expression, as well as the other Cricut machines, does not require a computer as it has its own keyboard for you to type your next cut project. It is a larger piece of equipment than its predecessors, allowing you to use mat sizes 12" x 12" or 12" x 24".
As with any other Cricut machine, you have to buy the cartridges that contain the fonts and shapes before you can start cutting. Luckily, the Cricut Expression uses the same cartridges, blade housings and blades as the previous models. So if you are upgrading, this is a neat feature! If you have never owned a Cricut before, don't worry! There are tons of different themed cartridges available with various designs to suit most artistic projects.
Although the Cricut Expression is bigger and heavier than the other machines, it is also by far the most flexible model and allows you to create much bigger die cuts. It also features a new LCD screen that allows you to see exactly what you are typing before you actually cut, avoiding mistakes and thus saving time and paper. You can cut both in portrait or landscape format and change language settings and units of measurement.
All in all, when you consider the money and time you save by not having to hand cut your designs or buying expensive pre-cut letters and shapes, it's clear that the Cricut Expression is a great investment for any paper crafter, both amateur or professional. Shop carefully and patiently, and you will find good discounts and bundles.
